UNDERCURRENTS

Exhibition at the Delaware Contemporary Art Museum.

Scientific theories confirm much of our understanding about how energy transmits and is transformed. Whether that be within our own atmosphere, between various organisms, or even within our own bodies. However, so much of these interactions go unseen and are rarely acknowledged as anything other than a certainty of life. By way of exploration, both Sara Dittrich and Raúl Romero have constructed installations that feature the nuances of energy transmission. Each artistic practice is a unique undertaking of examining certain vessels by which these synergies take place while further acknowledging their subtle existence through interaction.
Sonic waves are made physical through the work of Raúl Romero, who considers sound as a vast medium to further examine the idea of connection.
Inspired by his experiences in the varied landscapes of urban environments and overgrown jungles, Romero utilizes tools of reference and replacement to create installations that alter our perception of sound devices.
Romero constructs sculptural sound equipment that mixes technology and plant material, centering the plants as the maker, conductor, or vessel for sound transmission.
The resulting work empowers the beauty and significance of the materials while provoking the currents of energy that radiate through the sculptures and all around us.
